Countertechnique Class
A movement system designed to help dancers think about the dancing body, focusing on incorporating information into action.
Class only available to dance institutions.
What is Countertechnique?
Countertechnique is a movement system designed to help dancers think about the dancing body, focusing on incorporating information into action. Within a clear structure of exercises, the class thoroughly prepares the body for rehearsal and performance, enabling dancers to move bigger, more fluidly, and more spatially, while becoming stronger and more flexible.
By continuously and sequentially directing parts of the body away from each other in space, Countertechnique allows the moving dancer to work with an ever-changing dynamic balance. This reduces pressure on the overall body structure and can be changed at any given moment—creating pathways for sustainable, expansive movement.
Developed by Anouk van Dijk throughout her career as a dancer, choreographer, and artistic director. Can only be taught by certified teachers.
Eliza is a certified Countertechnique teacher. She completed her training in 2018.
“Eliza’s Countertechnique-based class is really great.
She is wonderful at leading both improvised and choreographed exercises and creates a perfect balance of freedom and structure so that you as a dancer can really tailor it to your own needs, while also getting a well-rounded technical workout.
It’s hard to find classes like that. I’m a big fan.”

“Eliza’s Countertechnique classes are a great way to develop body awareness and learn more about the mechanics behind the movement.”
